University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC / Illinois) GPA Calculator
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign grades A+ through F; an A+ counts as 4.00 like an A, and minus grades are two-decimal (A- = 3.67). Enter your courses below for your semester and cumulative GPA, then see how grade replacement, credit/no credit, the Dean's List and the Bronze Tablet work.

Illinois Grade Points
| Grade | Points | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.00 | C | 2.00 |
| A- | 3.67 | C- | 1.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 | D+ | 1.33 |
| B | 3.00 | D | 1.00 |
| B- | 2.67 | D- | 0.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 | F | 0.00 |
An A+ carries 4.00, so a UIUC GPA can't pass 4.00. An F includes courses dropped for academic integrity violations. The same GPA is used for honors, academic standing, financial aid and transfers between colleges.
Example: 4 hours of A- (14.68), 3 of B+ (9.99), 3 of A (12.00), 3 of B (9.00) and 2 of C+ (4.66) give 50.33 ÷ 15 = 3.36.
Repeats Count Twice Unless You File Grade Replacement
By default, when you repeat a course both grades count in your GPA, and credit counts once. Campus Grade Replacement lets the second grade replace the first:
- Only for a C-, D+, D, D- or F on the first attempt.
- Up to 4 distinct courses and 10 semester hours in total, all at UIUC.
- Once per course, with the same grade mode, credit hours and topic as the original.
- You must file the request in the first half of the term in which you repeat.
- Not allowed for a course with a reported academic integrity violation, or after you graduate.
Watch out: if you passed the first attempt and fail the replacement, the normal rule applies and both grades count. Replacing a grade also doesn't reopen past Dean's Lists or probation decisions.
Credit/No Credit: 18 Hours, D- Earns Credit
Undergraduates may apply up to 18 semester hours of credit/no credit toward a degree. Full-time students in good standing can take two courses a semester this way; part-time, probation and summer students get one. Your instructor reports a normal letter, and since fall 2022 a D- or better becomes CR and an F becomes NC. Neither affects your GPA.
CR/NC can't be used for general education requirements, and the result can never be changed back to a letter grade. Some graduate and professional schools treat NC as an F when recalculating GPAs.
Dean's List: Top 20 Percent of Your College
UIUC has no single Dean's List GPA. Each college sets a semester GPA cutoff that captures roughly the top 20 percent of its students and can adjust it. You need at least 12 hours taken for a letter grade, so CR/NC hours don't count toward the 12. Students with I or deferred grades are added once those grades are resolved.
Bronze Tablet and Graduation Honors
The Bronze Tablet is UIUC's top recognition, and its rules are changing:
| Graduating | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Spring 2030 and earlier | At least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and rank in the top 3% of your college's graduating class, through the term before graduation |
| Summer 2030 and later | A 4.0 cumulative UIUC GPA (transfer work excluded) on at least 30 letter-graded UIUC hours, through the term before graduation |
Transfer students under the current rule also need 25 UIUC hours and a UIUC GPA at least as high as the lowest qualifier in their college. Latin-style graduation honors (such as distinction) are set by each college, so check your college's rules.
Academic Warning
After each semester, an undergraduate is placed on Academic Warning if their cumulative GPA is below 2.0, their semester GPA is below 2.0, or they miss program-specific requirements. Your college tells you what you must do to return to good standing, and students who don't meet those requirements are subject to its drop rules.
