UCLA GPA Calculator

UCLA runs on quarters, grades A+ through F, and counts an A+ as 4.0, the same as an A. Enter your courses below for your quarter and cumulative GPA, then see how UCLA's repeat rule, P/NP option, Latin honors and academic standing work.

Grading system: UCLA, A+ and A = 4.0, A- = 3.7 down to D- = 0.7 and F = 0. P, NP, S, U and I are left out of the GPA.

UCLA's Grade Points

Under Academic Senate Regulation A-307, an A is worth 4 points per unit, and a plus or minus moves a grade by 0.3. The A+ is reserved for extraordinary work and is still worth 4.0, so a UCLA GPA tops out at 4.0.

Grade Points Grade Points
A+ / A4.0C+2.3
A-3.7C2.0
B+3.3C-1.7
B3.0D+ / D / D-1.3 / 1.0 / 0.7
B-2.7F0

Most UCLA courses are 4 or 5 quarter units. Example quarter: 5 units of A- (18.5), 4 of B+ (13.2) and 4 of A (16.0) give 47.7 ÷ 13 = 3.67.

Repeating a Course: C- or Below, First 16 Units

You can repeat a course only if you earned a C-, D+, D, D-, F, NP or U. A C- qualifies at UCLA, unlike at many schools. Each course can be repeated once, and credit counts once.

  • For the first 16 units of graded courses you repeat, only the second grade counts in your GPA.
  • After 16 units, both grades are averaged into your cumulative GPA.
  • Every grade stays on your transcript.

Enter only the new grade when modelling one of your first 16 repeated units.

Passed/Not Passed: A P Needs a C

College students in good standing can take up to 5 units P/NP in a quarter, or 10 units if they took none the previous quarter. A C or better earns a P; a C- or below becomes NP. P/NP courses don't affect your GPA and don't count toward Latin honors.

Watch out: the P line is a C, not the C- used at UC Berkeley and many other schools, so a C- that would count as a pass elsewhere becomes NP at UCLA. Students on academic notice or continuation can't use P/NP.

Latin Honors: 2025-26 Cutoffs by School

Latin honors go to roughly the top 5% (summa), next 5% (magna) and next 10% (cum laude) of each school. You need at least 90 UC units taken for a letter grade. Cutoffs for 2025–26 graduates:

School Cum laude Magna Summa
College of Letters and Science3.9233.9683.988
Arts and Architecture3.9563.9763.994
Education and Information Studies3.9433.9813.991

Public Affairs3.9623.9873.993
Public Health3.9233.9683.988
Theater, Film and Television3.9633.9763.988

*Engineering also requires at least a 3.25 GPA in upper-division major courses. In the College, cum laude requires a 3.923: two 4-unit B grades in an otherwise all-A record of 90 units (a 3.911) already miss it.

Dean's Honors each quarter are set by each school and have changed in recent years; check your school's current criteria in the UCLA catalog. An Incomplete or NP in a quarter makes you ineligible that quarter.

Academic Notice and Subject to Dismissal (College)

Status Trigger
Academic NoticeQuarter or overall GPA from 1.5 up to 1.99
Subject to Dismissal (Academic Continuation)A quarter GPA below 1.5; a quarter GPA below 2.0 while on notice; or not restoring a 2.0 overall GPA within one quarter

You have one quarter on notice to bring your overall GPA back to 2.0. If you can't maintain good standing after that, you may be temporarily dismissed, which can also affect financial aid.
