Mizzou's Grade Points
| Grade | Points | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.00 | C+ | 2.3 |
| A- | 3.7 | C | 2.00 |
| B+ | 3.3 | C- | 1.7 |
| B | 3.00 | D+ / D / D- | 1.3 / 1.00 / 0.7 |
| B- | 2.7 | F | 0 |
An A+ carries 4.00, the same as an A. All undergraduate instructors must use this scale. When a course requires "a C," a C- counts, because any grade in the C range qualifies. Your cumulative GPA covers courses taken at any University of Missouri System campus.
Example: 3 credits of A- (11.1), 4 of B+ (13.2), 3 of A (12.0), 3 of C+ (6.9) and 3 of B (9.0) give 52.2 ÷ 16 = 3.26.
Repeating a Course: You Must Request the Adjustment
You can repeat courses as often as you like, but every attempt counts in your GPA until you file a GPA adjustment request with the Registrar after finishing the second attempt. It isn't applied automatically.
- Only grades of C-, D+, D, D- or F can be replaced; a C or higher can't.
- The highest grade of any attempt in an equivalent UM System course counts, and only one earlier attempt can be replaced.
- No more than 18 credit hours can be dropped from your GPA in total.
- A repeat can't be taken S/U, and a W or I in the repeat can't replace anything.
- The policy isn't available after you graduate.
Watch out: to have a past term's academic standing recalculated, you must file the request in the very next semester, by the end of its add/drop period. Late requests fix your GPA but not your old standing.
S/U (Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory) Grading
Several Mizzou schools let you take electives S/U. An S equals a C- or higher and earns full credit; a U earns none. Neither enters your GPA. You can switch to or from S/U only through the 25th day of classes. Taking S/U courses can affect eligibility for Latin and other graduation honors.
Latin Honors
| Honor | GPA of record |
|---|---|
| Cum laude | 3.600–3.799 |
| Magna cum laude | 3.800–3.899 |
| Summa cum laude | 3.900–4.000 |
The same campus-wide cutoffs apply in every school and college. You need at least 30 credit hours of MU-authored courses, and honors are set after your final semester. Cum laude starts at 3.600, higher than the 3.5 used at many universities.
Notice, Warning and Dismissal
| Status | What triggers it | What you need next |
|---|---|---|
| Academic Notice | Term GPA below 2.0 while in good standing | A 2.0 term and cumulative GPA within two terms |
| Academic Warning | Term or cumulative GPA below 2.0 for a second consecutive term | A 2.0 term and cumulative GPA the next term |
| Academic Dismissal | Not meeting the warning requirement | Appeal, or sit out a calendar year before applying to return |
Good standing requires both your most recent term GPA and your cumulative GPA to be 2.0 or higher. Summer terms count as terms. Some majors set higher standards.
