Temple's Grade Points
| Grade | Points | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 4.00 | C | 2.00 |
| A- | 3.67 | C- | 1.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 | D+ | 1.33 |
| B | 3.00 | D | 1.00 |
| B- | 2.67 | D- | 0.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 | F | 0.00 |
There's no A+. A D- passes, but General Education courses and many major courses need at least a C-. Transfer credit carries no grade points, so your Temple GPA uses Temple courses only.
Example: 3 credits of A- (11.01), 4 of B+ (13.32), 3 of B (9.00), 3 of C+ (6.99) and 3 of A (12.00) give 52.32 ÷ 16 = 3.27.
Repeating a Course: Highest Grade, Three Attempts
When you repeat a course, every attempt stays on your transcript, but only the highest grade counts in your GPA, and credit is awarded once. A worse retake can't hurt you.
- Anyone may take a course a second time; a third attempt needs your school or college's approval, and no course can be attempted more than three times.
- Withdrawals (W) count as attempts, except excused withdrawals (WE). Audits don't.
- A course first taken for a letter grade can't be repeated credit/no credit or pass/fail.
- Once you're at Temple, you can't transfer in a course you already attempted there.
Watch out: running out of attempts in a course your major requires means you must change majors. Two W's already use up two of your three attempts.
Credit/No Credit: CR, CD and NC
Students in good standing can take one course per semester and four courses in total credit/no credit, excluding General Education courses. You must choose before the add/drop deadline, with your advisor's authorization.
| Grade | Equivalent | GPA effect |
|---|---|---|
| CR | C- or better | None; credit counts |
| CD | D+, D or D- | None; credit counts |
| NC | F | None; no credit |
A CD or NC won't satisfy a prerequisite that needs a C-, and every CR/NC course counts as an attempt under the repeat policy.
