Oklahoma State University (OSU / Oklahoma State) GPA Calculator

Oklahoma State grades with whole letters only (A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0), so a B+ and a B- earn the same 3 points. Enter your courses below for your semester and overall GPA, then see how OSU's repeat rule, pass-no pass option, honor rolls and graduation distinction work.

Grading system: Oklahoma State, A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0, no plus or minus. I, P, NP, S, U, W, R, SR, UR, AU and N are left out, as are developmental and physical education activity courses.

OSU's Whole-Letter Scale

Oklahoma State uses no pluses or minuses, so a strong B and a weak B are worth the same 3 points. Your GPA is total grade points divided by hours attempted. Developmental courses and physical education activity (leisure) courses are left out of it entirely.

Example: 3 hours of A (12), 4 of B (12), 3 of B (9), 3 of C (6) and 2 of A (8) give 47 ÷ 15 = 3.13.

Which GPA Is Which?

OSU transcripts show several GPAs, and the one used for standing and honors isn't the OSU-only one:

  • Overall GPA (formerly retention/graduation GPA): every OSU and transfer course with a grade, minus the exclusions above. This is the one used for probation, suspension and graduation distinction.
  • Total Institution GPA: the same, but OSU courses only.
  • Current Term GPA: a single semester, used for the honor rolls.

Watch out: a weak transfer GPA pulls down your overall GPA even if your OSU grades are strong. Enter transfer courses in the calculator too if you want your overall figure.

Repeating a Course: Best of Four Attempts

You can repeat any course for up to four attempts, including the first. Only the highest grade of those four counts in your GPA, so a worse retake can't hurt you. There's no limit on how many different courses you can repeat. Any attempt beyond the fourth counts in your GPA. Every attempt stays on the transcript, marked as included or excluded.

Separately, academic reprieve can remove one or two consecutive bad semesters, and academic renewal can remove all work before a date. Both require three years to have passed and a later 2.00 GPA on at least 12 regularly graded hours with no grade below C.

Pass-No Pass: Four Courses or 15 Hours

You can take up to four courses or 15 hours, whichever is greater, pass-no pass. You need 28 or more hours, an overall GPA of at least 2.50, your advisor's approval, and a course that counts only as a general elective. You must choose by the last day to add.

Your instructor doesn't know and grades normally: an A, B or C becomes P, and a D or F becomes NP. Neither affects your GPA. Note that a D, which earns credit under letter grading, becomes NP.

President's List and Dean's List

Full-time students who complete at least 12 OSU credit hours in a fall or spring semester qualify with a current term GPA of:

Honor roll Term GPA Extra condition
President's List of Distinguished Students4.00 (all A's)—
Dean's List of Distinguished Students3.50 or higherNo grade below C

A single D keeps you off the Dean's List even with a 3.5 term GPA. Correspondence grades don't count toward the hours or GPA.

Graduation With Distinction

Distinction Overall GPA
Cum laude3.70–3.79
Magna cum laude3.80–3.89
Summa cum laude3.90–4.00

OSU uses only two decimal places without rounding: a GPA of 3.69785 counts as 3.69 and does not qualify for cum laude. Distinction is based on your final overall GPA, which includes transfer work.

Good Standing, Probation and Suspension

Overall hours attempted Minimum overall GPA for good standing
0–301.70
31 or more2.00

Fall below the minimum and you're on probation for one semester. At the end of it, you continue if you earn a 2.00 term GPA or meet the minimum above; if you do neither, you are suspended for at least one regular semester. First-year students with an overall GPA of 1.70 to 1.99 are placed on academic notice, a warning rather than probation.
