GPA Scale Converter

Enter a value on any one scale — a percentage, a 4.0 GPA, or a 10-point CGPA — and see it converted to the other two instantly.

GPA scale converter

Conversion uses standard letter-grade bands (93–100% = 4.0, 90–92% = 3.67, and so on) and the common CGPA × 9.5 ≈ percentage approximation. Your school's own scale may differ slightly — see the notes below.

Why GPA Scales Don't Convert Perfectly

A percentage is continuous — 91% and 92% are meaningfully different. A 4.0 GPA is banded — both of those percentages round to the same A- (3.67). Converting between the two always loses some precision in one direction, which is why this tool (and every GPA scale converter) gives a close standard estimate rather than an exact, universal answer.

The bands used here — 93–100% is a 4.0, 90–92% is 3.67, and so on — match the table on the main GPA calculator. They're the most common US convention, but plenty of schools set their own cutoffs a point or two either side.

CGPA column uses percentage ÷ 9.5 — the widely-used approximation, not an official standard. If your university publishes its own CGPA-to-percentage formula, use that one for anything official.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a percentage to a 4.0 GPA?

Match your percentage to the letter-grade band it falls in (93-100% is a 4.0, 90-92% is 3.67, and so on down to below 60% at 0.0), then use that band's grade point. There is no single official formula because grading bands vary by school, so treat the result as a close standard-scale estimate.

How do I convert a 10-point CGPA to a percentage?

The most common approximation, used informally by many Indian universities, is percentage = CGPA × 9.5. Some universities publish their own official formula instead (for example CGPA minus 0.75, then ×10) — check your specific university's conversion policy for anything that needs to be exact, like a visa or job application.

Is there one universal formula for converting GPA scales?

No. Every school and country sets its own grading bands, so any converter — including this one — gives a close standard estimate, not an official transcript conversion. When a specific number needs to be exact, use the conversion your issuing institution publishes.
